Historical Context The so-called “Bottle Wreck” refers to a historically significant shipwreck located at Great Basses Reef, off the southern coast of Sri Lanka, near Kirinda. The site, named for the large number of glass bottles and storage containers found there, dates to the early 18th century and has yielded a rich collection of trade goods, including ceramics, glassware, coins, and metal artifacts.
